Failed Cholecystectomy: Aortic Through & Through Puncture
Aortic Through and Through Puncture: Patient is placed in the supine position. Veress needle is placed in Palmer’s point and abdomen is insufflated. A small incision is made midline inferior to the umbilicus. A 12mm Optiview trocar is introduced into the incision and forced through the layers of tissue into the abdominal cavity. The Optiview tracer is forced through both the anterior and posterior walls of the aorta. Blood quickly begins to flow into the abdominal cavity. Surgery is aborted and emergency repair attempted.
